Wrap yarn around your hand following the diagram
Most crochet projects begin with a slip knot.
There are lots of methods of making a slip knot this is the one I like to use
Slide the hook down your thumb between the yarn wrapped around it. Keep the hook tip facing your thumb and wrap yarn around the hook. Pull wrapped loop up as diagram to make a slip knot. Adjust slip knot if necessary.
